Game of Thrones

Alright, so here's the story. It's a bit of a long one, so bear with me.

Once upon a time I was at Barnes and Noble with Blue, hunting for books. After a lot of hunting, I pulled Game of Thrones (George RR Martin) off the shelf. It looked pretty good, the usual stuff I'm in to, although I was a little hesitant because it was really long and although I like to read series (what's the plural of that?) I'm leery of  7/8/9 book epics and that's what A Song of Ice and Fire was shaping up to be.

I bought it anyway.

I started it. But GoT is a bit on the dark side. I wasn't prepared. 80 pages in and a whole bunch of really nasty stuff had happened to the characters I liked...so I stopped.

A couple of weeks ago, HBO debuted their new TV series based on the books. I watched it. I liked it. I
restarted the book.

I really like it! It's still dark, and still a bit upsetting, but I like it. I definitely recommend it.

That's all I really have to say for now.

The Butterfly Effect

Can't do anything long tonight, I'm off to a royal wedding sleepover/viewing party

But I will share quickly that I did finish a couple of the stories I was planning, and one is not horrible although it needs MAJOR polishing. And it probably also needs to be about twice as long. It's based off the move The Adjustment Bureau (which is in turn based off a short story) if you've seen it.

Now I'm going back to work on the novels. I think the fantasy one needs to be retired for a bit, but I'm ready to work on the other one.

I'll keep you all informed. Also, tomorrow I will address Game of Thrones.

I'm Really Bad About Birthdays

I forget everybody's birthday.

I mean, I know mine. And my brother's, and my dad's, and my dog's. But I CANNOT seem to remember any of my friends' birthdays, and I haven't quite figured out if my mother's is the 24th or the 26th. How sad is that?

This year, I finally accepted the fact that I will never be good with birthdays, and instead of worrying about being on time and forgetting and being late and discombobulated, I just decided that I would pick a date, declare it the Collective Birthday, and give everyone presents then.

Why am I telling you this? Because it's interesting - to me at least - and an important part of my personality. Also because it has to do with writing. Namely, the presents.

I thought it would be a good idea to write little stories or screenplays - short ones - for my friends. I was aiming for one each, so five total. This all sounded good in theory, but the collective birthday is tomorrow and I've only finished one. Haha. I am such a bad procrastinator.

Even this is procrastination. So bye, while I scramble like mad to finish all of this.

So We're Back Here Again

I've been neglecting you, I'm sorry - mostly because I haven't been writing. It's been a rough couple of weeks. Who knew that so much free time could be so busy?

Now I'm on a deadline - 5 stories by Thursday. I'll keep you guys updated.

Adaptation

Working on TBA (The Beekeeper's Apprentice, not To be Announced) is interesting. It's hard to adapt a book that is very heavy on exposition and jumps around in time. There's a whole lot of just figuring out what is important, what little details are not strictly necessary and what details will prove to be vital later on.

It's fun, like a puzzle.

Off to driving now, we'll see if I get a chance to work on it later. Maybe I'll talk more about adaptation later.
