The Last Harry Potter

Just saw the last movie. Need to digest that. For a while.

I've finished all the books now too, sorry I haven't been keeping you all more up to date. I'd basically stopped writing because I was spending every second reading, trying to get through all the books before I saw the movie, but now that that's over I can get going again.

That was a really good movie.

I'm Pregnant...With Cheescake

Didn't really do much work on the novel today, mostly because I went to the beach and then the Cheesecake Factory - I am SO full now...

Harry Potter's on hold because Hermione is much slower than I am.

As for the pages, I realize that my last post was not terribly clear. What I mean, if you weren't sure, is that I'm going to have a separate page for each project I'm working on, up at the top where right now you see "home" and "codenames". Like (I think) I said before, the pages will have summaries, character lists, maybe excerpts, word counts and updates, etc.

And the last totally random thing I have to say is that I found a link to this series of posts while fooling around on the NaNo forums and they're really interesting and are renewing my interest in my fantasy which is currently on the backburner...

Marvin / Julno Update #4

I've started writing a children's book. It's about a caterpillar named Marvin who's in love with a butterfly named Luna. You see, our RA here at Boston has paper and a sharpie on her door so we can leave her notes, and so I've been leaving little pictures. With captions. That are developing into a story.
I'm not sure how it's going to end, though.

If I find the time and/or the energy, I'll take pictures and post them.

And of course,

L&O: Vampires

Word count: 4,121
Characters introduced: 0

PS As of this post I'm switching all the numbers to new characters - so new characters introduced, new vampires, etc. - because pretty soon these lists are going to get out of hand. I'm working on a new pages, one for each project I'm working on, with word counts, character lists, plot outlines (when I get that far) excerpts, etc. So look forward to that.

Happy 4th of July!

Let me tell you, being in Boston on the 4th of July is super exciting. I can't wait to watch the fireworks!
In the meantime, here's a sample of what I've been working on lately. Sorry if the formatting's off...

The bartender set a shot glass on the bar. It was made of black glass streaked through with lime green. Cory eyed it dubiously.
“I’m surprised they let you in,” said the bartender gruffly. “We don’t get many of your kind around here.”
Cory decided to play the thrill seeker. He grinned wolfishly. “I suppose not. But it’s just so much more exciting here, you know?” He punctuated the thought with a flash of fang. The girls went into raptures.
The bartender just stared. “That’s what they all think,” he finally answered.
Cory could feel that he was onto something, but asking too many questions too early would only arouse suspicion.
A vampire couple slammed up against the bar to his left. They were so intertwined that he could barely see where one body ended and the other began. Even their body paint connected – the shimmering purple and silver dragon head which decorated the male’s face and chest flowed seamlessly into its counter part tail winding down the female’s arm. They broke apart for a second, long enough for the male to down Cory’s shot, and then they were gone, pulled back into the seething organism that inhabited the dance floor.
The bartender looked disgusted. “I’ll pour you another.”
“You don’t seem the type,” Cory said thoughtfully.
The bartender turned, the vodka bottle in his hand. “Excuse me?”
“You don’t seem the type to be bartending at a vampire club.”
He snorted. “The regular guy’s on break.” His tone didn’t invite further questions, and Cory let it drop.
The college girls were whispering now. One was trying to convince the other to go talk to him. The pheromones were coming off them in waves.
“You’d better watch out for them. These girls, they come to the vampire clubs because they think it’s ‘exciting’. They think it’s daring, or glamorous, or the cool thing to do. They don’t realize how dangerous it is.”
When an opening like that presents itself…Cory ran with it. “It is dangerous. I’m sure you’ve heard about the recent deaths – “
“Those bloodless corpses? Sure, we’ve all heard about that. That’s not what I’m talking about.”
Cory frowned. But before he could say anything more, someone down at the end of the bar hailed the bartender and he was gone.
Deep in thought, Cory downed his shot before he remembered that he didn’t like vodka.

Summer Reading

Sorry for the neglect - I'm at a summer intensive and for the past week I've barely had enough energy to drag myself into bed, let alone write a blog post :)

But, I have been reading a lot. My level has these very inconvenient 3 hour breaks, so since last Sunday I have read:

The Wee Free Men, Terry Pratchett, 375 pages (he's always funny - I recommend Good Omens, which he wrote with Neil Gaiman)

Dark Lord of Derkholm, Diana Wynne Jones, 517 pages (a favorite of mine. I like Diana, although her books are split fifty-fifty for me. Half I really like, half I really don't get. This one I really like)

The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins, 374 pages (I've been resisting for a long time - I don't like books in present tense - but I finally bit the bullet and it was really captivating)

The Iron King, Julie Kagawa, 363 pages (liked it, although the story is not perhaps as resolved as I'd like it to be, even in the first of a series)

My friend offered to lend me her Harry Potters so I could reread them before the movie comes out...hopefully that will keep me occupied...

Also, JulNo starts today! I need some motivation to keep writing here while I'm SO tired.
