WHY am I AWAKE?

So, I know I've been neglecting this, but I've been working. And let me tell you, working with kids all day leaves you REALLY tired. So blogging is pretty much the last thing on my mind when I come home. It's more like eat and fall into bed...

Not a whole lot to say on the subject of writing, but I will share that I discovered today that the word I always believed to be "harbringer" is actually "harbinger" and well, this is what comes of reading extensively as a child but never actually hearing words pronounced. Also, I read really fast, so sometimes will miss letters or, as was the case here, add letters, apparently.

This reminds me of the time in fourth grade I realized that "trough" was pronounced like "cough" and not "trow". So yeah.

And why am I still up? Good question.

Vampires. Such Divas.

So, wrote a couple of hundred words and then deleted them. Vampires are a pain to write about.

Bleh. Just not feeling inspired right now. I need to get back into nano mindset - more writing, less worrying.

Also, I have to go to bed because I have to get up ridiculously early tomorrow. Good night.

A Bunch of Random Things with Little to No Relationship Between Them

I'm graduating tomorrow.

Wow that's really weird.

So I'm going to talk about something else, namely that the view stats on this blog have exploded, probably due mostly to Rat :) In the past week there have been more hits than in the entire month of May

And just one more thing, Age of Empires, my favorite video game ever (and I'm not really that into video games) is coming up with an ONLINE FREE VERSION WHAT. Hear that, Blue?

Therefore I must leave you all to go investigate this life-changing discovery. Bye.

Damn Those Monkeys!

As is typical for me, I didn't do any of the things today that I meant to do. Not that I wasn't productive - I did a lot of cleaning - but I didn't do anything that I had previously planned to do. It was productive procrastination.

In cleaning out under my bed, I came across a lot of old notebooks from middle school and high school. In pretty much every single one of those notebooks was a bit of writing, from one line to a few paragraphs. Like I said before, I start but never finish.

There were a couple of good things in there, actually! One line in particular has stuck with me:

"...cursing all small monkeys masquerading as humans with wicked humor."

Not bad for middle school, huh?

In other news, I went to my first roller derby last night. Rat's been into it for a while (read: obsessed and won't shut up about it) and so I finally went with her. To my surprise, I enjoyed myself! It's very exciting. And there's just the right about of violence for it to be interesting (less that football and hockey, but more than, I don't know, soccer?).

So it was a good night, aside from the fact that I left my ticket at home and had to go all the way back to get it...

Wouldn't it be cool if I wrote the next Harry Potter?

PROM.

It wasn't in the school gym. I didn't have a date, I didn't wear a long dress or a corsage, or ride in a limo, or do any of that stuff you're supposed to do at prom.

It was fun, though.

But it did mean that I spent most of Thursday getting ready, and most of Friday sleeping.

Anyway, right now I'm still working on editing "The Butterfly Effect"; I'm hoping to get that done in a couple of days so version 2.0 can be a sort of graduation present for my friends. I also have to write a "self-reflective paper" about my senior spring - actually that's due on Monday - so I'd better get cracking.

In our yearbooks we have what's called a "rag sheet": for each person there's dream, reality, heard saying, perfect mate, biggest secret, we leave her, will end up, etc. I just thought I'd share that mine reads: we leave her writing a novel, will end up J.K. Rowling.

I WISH.

A New Method?

Hi - missed yesterday because of the Senior Project Dinner - basically I graduate next Friday and so the events are coming fast and furious. Not kidding - I'm busy every day next week.

Anyway, I'm due for a post about detective stories. Specifically, why I find the idea of writing a novel which centers on a police investigation to be difficult.

And that would be because you have to know the ending.

I don't know who the bad guy is. I don't know how the book will end. I don't have any clues to sprinkle through because, well, I've basically got no clue what's going on. Anything I try to come up with sounds contrived at best. I'm inclined to try the "just go with it and see what happens" approach, and then go back and add clues and red herrings and whatever.

That all remains to be seen.

I'm actually tempted to write this out of order, too. Part of the reason I'm stuck on the fantasy novel is that I'm writing linearly and I've gotten to a scene I don't particularly want to write. I think I just have to go with what comes to me and put it together later. I mean, my current method isn't working too well. What have I got to lose?
